If you are looking for the perfect portable media player for your car, then look no further!, October 12, 2015
    By

    Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
On a quest to find a portable media player for my kids that I could use in my vehicle, I finally stumbled across this outstanding product. After purchasing 2 other portable media players, and both being defective, and having to be returned, I discovered the NAVISKAUTO, 10.1 inch digital media screen. The first thing that stood out was the brilliantly designed adapter bracket used to attach the media player to the headrest. Unlike the cheap straps that the other media players used, this design, included an adapter bracket, that easily snapped onto the headrest posts and did not obstruct the actual headrest for the front seat passenger or driver. The screen then easily attached to the adapter bracket, providing a clean look. I also liked how easily it could be removed and reattached to the bracket in event the screen needed to be taken out for any reason. It also allowed the ability to vertically tilt the screen for optimal viewing.

When I turned the media player on the first thing that stood out was the screen quality. Not only was the screen slightly larger (10.1 inches vs 9 inches or 7 inches) and flatter than most other portable players, the resolution and visual quality was outstanding. I liked how quickly a dvd disc booted up as well. There was no long waiting for it to read the disc, nor did it have any trouble reading a disc. Also another great aspect to this player was despite visible vibrations when attached to my seat and driving down the road, the disc never skipped once.

Though I have not been able to experiment with all the features of this player, what stood out was the number of available options. After thorough research, I could not find a portable media player that included all the features that this one did. I won’t list them all, but the features that this player included that stood out most to me, were the HDMI input, media card reader, the resume playback feature, and the remote control. Most players priced in this range exclude most of these features that I listed. Though not applicable to me at this time, this player included other great features like FM sound modulation, IR headphone support, AV ins and outs, and even included a video game disc with the remote doubling up as a controller!

In conclusion, I would rate the NAVISKAUTO 10.1 inch portable media player five out of five stars. You simply will not find a better quality product, with more features, and in this price range. My only criticism of this product is that the unit’s built in loudspeakers are not loud enough, even when the volume is maxed out. I only mention this because my child is too young to want to use headphones and rather than play the audio through my vehicles speakers, I like to listen to native audio sources in the front of my vehicle while my child is watching a movie in the back. Between my native audio signal and road and wind noise, the speakers on this player were not quite loud enough. That is a minor gripe that will change when my child is older and will prefer to use headphones. Finally, this product is such an outstanding value, that I will be purchasing a second unit for my youngest child, once they are old enough to utilize it, in about a year.

One of the best portable in car video systems I have found, just a few tweaks to address a critical issue would make it perfect, January 23, 2016
    By

This is the most well thought out in car video system I have ever seen. It attaches in an extremely secure way to the seat posts. The screen is very large and very sharp, and the remote is a quality remote not a crappy credit card ones (though it does take some getting used to because it doubles as a game controller). The headphones were also surprisingly rugged and also worked very, very well. Yeah it doesn’t have a battery but since we use it only for the car, its really perfect in our Sienna. I can’t stress enough how well these install into the car. It seems extremely secure and rather than crappy straps that interfere with the driver/passenger head, it has an exceptionally sturdy bracket and adapter that installs in between the seat posts. It does not flop or rattle whatsoever on rough roads. There is one big negative here, which defeats the point of having a DVD system in the first place.
The “region free” DVD player is a bit of a joke. I am sure readers are surprised I would give a DVD unit 4 stars when for me it would not play most DVDs. Don’t get me wrong its a really nice sony unit, but most of the kids DVDs just flat do not play on it and I constantly get region errors from the player. It also has trouble on some of the older discs where it jumps around on the disc when it reaches certain points breaking the movie. I am going to guess this is a US region vs region free player issue. Long story short is that many, many discs particularly Disney ones we have do not play on it or play poorly, a big miss when you bought the thing for your kids.
That should be the death knell, but this unit has two features that really show how behind the times DVD even is these days. It includes a USB port and an HDMI port and those two save this unit bigtime. It took some figuring out how to do, but I ripped the video library to DIVX AVI format. I picked up a pair of 128 GB USB thumb drives for about $20 each and we now have virtually every kids movie on them, and it is accessible from the player which is great. Instead of packing a ton of discs to get melted in the car on a hot summer day, we just pack a tiny little thumb drive and we are good to go.
Now another negative here is that it seems the player is very specific to what you rip. Trying a program like handbrake produces a standard H.264 MP4 file, and it will not play it (even though it says MP4). If I use the standard MPEG-4 encoder in handbrake it will produce a file that will play, but it looked terrible (this might be my inexperience and some settings adjustment may have improved this but Handbrakes docs plat said MPEG-4 was a low quality setting in their program). I switched to WinX DVD Ripper and DIVX AVI, and the movies look great, the sound is great and we can watch any movie we have between both kids. This is actually far better than carrying around DVDs. I think they make a unit sans DVD and after going through this I would suggest you save yourself the hassle and go with the unit sans DVD to begin with and save a couple of bucks.
Now the other awesome feature is the HDMI port. With that I simply plug in my phone with an HDMI cable (going to try a Miracast dongle as well to see if I can do it wirelessly) and the kids can watch any Netflix show they want. That was incredibly cool.
So in short, this really is a fantastic unit. If you have DVDs that work for it thats awesome, it did not work so well for me but it other features more than made up for this and actually make it much easier to pack a ton of movies for long trips in a minimal space with the USB sticks. I can’t stress enough how well and easy it is to install and I feel like it would crash test well in an accident, something I would not say for the old Sony DVD player we used in its cloth caddie poorly velcro’ed to the seat. A little more fine tuning and I just don’t see why on earth you would want to shell out $1500 for an in car system from a major maker when you can spend less than $300 for separate systems for the kids that you can put securely and safely in any car and achieve all the same features (haven’t tried sharing movies between units yet but that is another cool bonus). You really can’t go wrong with this thing even with the some fairly serious operational issues with the DVD unit, I have never seen anything better. My only lingering concern is reliability, if this unit turns out to last more than a couple of trips these guys really hit it out of the park. I have no prior experience with this company but other products they make seem to be fairly well reviewed so I am hopeful these will last a good long time. We shall see.

    Awesome!, March 31, 2016

    Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
I was tired of buying the crappy Panasonic/RCA junk from Walmart only for it to break 6 months later. The last set I bought was only 7 inches and it skipped every 3 seconds. I also hated that they strap to the headrest which isn’t very secure. This one has all the features I wanted. A large screen, the ability to plug my phone into it, and it mounts to the headrest posts which is much more secure. You couldn’t even control the volume on the last set from the remote. There are basically no installation instructions that come with this but it’s pretty self explanatory. If this thing lasts longer than 6 months I’ll be thrilled! The screen is very clear and I just ordered the cable I need to hook my phone to it.
